Exactly. I noticed you didn’t have the lid on and wondered if the A/c condenser core was still installed. I’d like to see how far the condenser is away from the box wall. A straight down pic would be great if possible

Your original question has been answered and yes a 455 with stock valve covers will fit. Might be difficult replacing valve cover gaskets in the future. Be careful during installation of the engine. A buddy broke his box during the install.

Here'a another option that is a little easier, and a lot less mess ( inside & out ).

I did this on my 1991 Chevy s10 when I put in a 350.

Here's a couple pictures of what I did for my 500 install. I made a patch of aluminum and pop rivited it in place. Can't find pictures of it completed but you can hardly see it.

So here is what I finally did. I cut the tops off of the valve covers, flipped them around, and welded them back on. Once I get some textured paint on them they’ll be barely noticeable. Plenty of clearance for the roller rockers at full lift and 3/8” clearance to A/C box with engine centered in the frame.
