I thought it would be worth something, but i have no room to keep it or someone to sell it to.

Aluminum core supports have a big "A" stamped in them on the passenger side right on top where you can see it.

I bought this one this summer and it will eventually find it's way onto my 442.

Thanks for the tip! Now I know what to look for when I go to the junkyard tomorrow morning.

I'd only heard about the aluminum parts recently while researching possible build ideas for my Regal. From what I've read so far, the aluminum core supports were mosty found in higher optioned V8 Regals and Cutlasses, but I don't know if that's the only source. I knew my Regal had factory aluminum brake drums and intake manifold, and was stoked to discover she also had the aluminum core support, decklid, and filler panel between the decklid and rear window as well!

If you're ever in need of a magnet in a junkyard though, just grab a door speaker out of some random car. Works great for collecting nuts and bolts from the parts you're pulling too.

So i took a trip back to the wrecking yard, and found of couple of goodies. But one that i wasn't sure about was the core suport. I found one on a buick century wag. But not sure if this one will work? Any one know if this year will work?

All G-body core supports are interchangeable. The only variance is the size of the cut out behind the headlights. Not only does it not matter, but if you feel the need, you can just trim the hole larger.

Now get back to the yard and get that core support!

My 2 cents worth...

I've only seen aluminum supports in 78,79, and 80 model years. Not saying they weren't used in later cars, just I've never seen one.

Of the seven I have bought and sold...they were all in either Buick Century, Regal, or Pontiac Grand Prix cars. Obviously, they were used in the Lemans cars as well...again, Lemans tend to be so scarce I've never seen one.

Some people say Olds used them, but I've looked at probably 400 Cuttys, never seen one.

Not all are stamped with the A...but you can't miss the BIG plug welds on the aluminum vs the small spotwelds on the steel version.

ok, so i went back sunday morning right after i got off working an 8hr shift, and was able to take off the alum core support. It wasn't hard, but one bolt on the battery tray was rusted and stripped.
