Abandoned GM Stamping Plant Site

They haven't learned anything. When they almost went under in 2008, they had done it to theirselves. They are working towards doing it to theirselves again. I bought my truck from them in 2008. I won't buy another from them. Poor management and decision making. Sad.

I read an article a week or two ago, I can't remember where it was, might've been Jalopnik, but it basically was saying that as hot as truck sales are right now, most pickup buyers say they wouldn't buy another pickup and they didn't think their trucks were a good value. It was more or less predicting that the truck market, at least for personal vehicles has peaked or will very soon.

A good value on a truck would be able to get a true bare bones model with out all the gadets, bells, whistles, Wi-Fi, upper level trims & other premium car features. I'll admit that I got used to some of the extras on my Silverado but ir would be nice if those Z71 stickers & badges ment something other than a trim package. Funny thing is a El Camino is more truck than mine cause GM converted all half tons to over weight sedans.

I get a big laugh following a lifted brand new truck with big tires and a 10-bolt differential.

You would think that with them making so many of these trucks, they'd be able to get the prices down some. I figure if I was to buy a new truck, I would minimally want 4wd and a V8, on a regular cab long bed. With those basic options and nothing else, you are already sitting around $33k+ with Ford and Chevy. I think that's way too much to pay for an otherwise bare bones vehicle. Call me crazy but I think that number should be closer to $25k.

I don't think you are crazy. I think new cars are generally way overpriced. Especially half ton trucks. I'm also very turned off by how the new cars are electronic nannies. Yellow lights flashing in the mirrors, backup cameras, the seat vibrating because you are too close to something, beeping at you because you are too close to something, applying the brakes for you for a myriad of reasons, unrelentingly fussing at you to put on your seatbelt. It's not for me. I don't see myself ever buying something much newer than the 2008 I'm driving now.

I've always been a GM guy but they've done a great job at really turning me off. Terrible commercials, pricing I don't agree with and styling I don't like are among the reasons. The biggest though is closing plants here in this country instead of closing plants in Mexico or overseas. That after the tax payer bailed them out (shouldn't have) and when everyone else seems to be able to assemble cars in this country and make money. They have a very entrenched culture in that company that I think will drive them out of business.
