Hey guys, I know this stuff is much discussed around different forums and certainly here. I've searched around quite a bit though, and have yet to find a definitive answer to my question.

What I'm doing is installing rally gauges in a 79 Monte with factory idiot lights. I bought a set of rally gauges & tach from an 86 Monte SS, but don't have the gauge pod. So I'm installing the 86 rally gauges/tach in the 79 gauge pod.

I pretty much have the wiring figured out from the wiring harness; I know which wires to connect to the gauges, but don't know which pins to connect them to. If I had the original 86 pod I would just trace the circuit and figure it out.

If anyone can help me ID the gauge pins it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I think the best thing to do is find the wiring schematic for the 86 and compare it to the wiring schematic of the 79.

Thanks for the responses guys. Done a little digging and research and I think I've got it figured out. I'll be posting a full how-to write up of this, complete with pics & diagrams.

I'm 99.9% sure I've got it, just need to finish it up and make sure everything works properly.

im also hooking up 7 autometers in my 83 cutlass, and i am wondering about which pins are what . would the write-up apply to my cutlass too?

Hmmm. I'm not sure since you're cluster is different and you're using autometer gauges instead of factory ones. Those should come with information telling you which pin should be connected to what wire.

I think this may help you though: http://tech.oldsgmail.com/eint_rallye_swap.php

I am also doing a gage swap with autometer for a 1979 pontiac g/prix is there a schematic for the wiring plugs? Car originally had idiot lights
Thanks
John

I've got a perfect diagram, covers long speedo with idiot lights and round speedo with gauges. PM your e-mail and I'll send it to whoever wants it.

Hey j3 did you hook up your gauges yet? I'm looking for what two terminals on the back of the volt gauge do I hook up the 12v and the ground to. I'm pretty much doing the same thing to my 79 monte carlo and got all the gauges going except the volt gauge.
