Ok so I s just about to put the motor in the car today and tada another problem when bolting the trans to the bell. The upper left ear broke off my muncie. Looks like it was already cracked but paint covers things. So what to do. Have it welded, new case, super case, super case iron mid plate and super tail or what?

Oh I know nothing about those. Sorry. But I did have a ear broken on my 350. And I managed to use only 4 out of 6 bolts on the transmission to the bellhousing. Im not sure with that transmission though

you can get it rewelded, ask yer local shop and see what they say...

Find a good welder and cut a nice v of the front surface so it can be filled with weld and ground down to sit flat against the bellhousing. The top and bottom can have some material removed so the weld can get a good bite on it. The side with the hole doesn't look like much room for welding so after the 3 sides are done I'd get a large aluminium washer and weld that in place...

Alumaloy will flow. Anybody remember those commercials fixing a transmission case? Seriously though like these fellas said. Find a good welder. It should not be a problem to have that repaired.

Hi it is cast alum and is very dirty with other metals.Hard to weld if you don't know how and you are going to need the bell to bold it to and help it stay in line. And yes i am a welder by trade and weld cast cases.

And how much would you get for such a service. I'm kind of leaning towards the super case because I have to empty it anyways

Honestly, you could probably just bolt everything together and forget about it. It's not the "right" way to do it but if it was cracked before it wasn't really supporting anything last time it was used anyway, right? I see welded and cracked ears at the swap meet all the time. 99% of the time they are a result of using the bolts to pull the transmission to the bellhousing and something was misaligned. The other 1% is from collision damage. They don't break from weight or engine torque. Since your broke ear is on top the weight (gravity) isn't even putting any stress on it. I know that sounds like hackery but I'm just being Honest. Of course the "right" thing to do is tear it down, clean it, and have it welded. Kind of a hassle but probably not terribly expensive.
