I emailed the bar editor or something like that earlier this week and he basically said that if it is not the same engine going in that came out then it is not a replacement. But the notes on their website talked about a replacement being something offered from the factory for the same make and model, which a 350 was. Seems contradictory but oh well. He also said that the ref has the sole discretion about what passes.
I think if I remember right the next section under appendix e their was something that described their weight classes. I don' have that handy but I'll go back and look.
So how about this idea. Going with a 350tbi from an 87 to 94 1500.

This says it is 50 state legal for that era of trucks. Can I make the assumption that since it is 50 state legal that I can drop it in my 79 and not be to much of a hassle with the ref?
Also my title has commercial on it so I believe itt is considered a truck in the eyes of DMV right?
