Another steering shaft question

I got a Jeep shaft from a standard Cherokee, great condition, but when I lined it up with the splines in the box and the double D, the steering wheel took a 1/4 turn.
The car, 87 SS was just lined up, so the steering wheel was "level" before I made the switch and does not wander.
So, did I mess up and need the Grand Cherokee shaft?

I've done this swap a few times and it has never caused the wheel to be misaligned. If you have a NACAM shaft it is the correct shaft. I have pulled several from standard Cherokee's and Grand Cherokee's and haven't seen a difference

Well now I'm really stumped.
I'll have to take it apart again, but I can't think of what I could have done wrong to cause the wheel to move.

The shaft is square, possibly been apart and reassembled wrong?

I would like to know what the big deal is about a jeep shaft ? The word "JEEP SHAFT" has come up on here before.Can't seem to find any info though. What's the point.? Are they any better then stock,What year do they have to be from,

They eliminate the rag joint. Mine didn't fit with my headers, so I cut the rubber dampener out of it. I think there are lots of pics on montecarloss.com

I installed the Jeep Cherokee intermediate shaft and have had no issues whatsoever. Steering wheel was still in original alignment afterward. You might be able to pull the two halves apart and flip them over. However, you will more than likely have to apply some heat to them. Just hot enough to get them to move, but not to overheat 'em.

Looks like it's rubbing your header ? What did you have to do to make it work other than cut the rubber dampener Just bolt it in ?

I need to see more pics before going this route,You got one ? What "year" Jeep Cherokee did you get yours from ?

I don't have any pics during the install process, but you should be able to find a bunch online. I believe my steering shaft came from a mid to late '90's early 2000's Cherokee. I'm pleased with the steering responsiveness compared to the old rag joint shaft.
I kept thinking that my steering box needed to be readjusted, when it turned out to be play in the rag joint.
