Another unexpected loss.... sigh.

So I my saw decided it would no longer cut these boards after I was only halfway through the first cut.

So.

New saw. Hitachi rebranded to this. It a slight feature upgrade off my old Dewalt, has the laser marker 12" blade 15 amp motor dual bevel sliding compound. The extended faces and supports aren't on it in this picture.

One problem solved.

Cut 90% of the project, now into joining and assembly. I did not cut the trim and moldings, those will be hand miter box after everything is done and together.

Sneak peek at the lid:

I was afraid of splintering on the edges of the cuts on the red oak, but, those fears weren't warranted so far...

I think more of my pets then most people I deal with. So sorry. It sucks. I put one of our dogs down a couple months ago. No fun

Well, I mostly finished things. I didn't get to put down a coat of poly to finish things off which is disappointing. But I didn't feel right making him wait without his home any longer than he had to.

Not as elegant as I'd have liked, but also took more than my body had to give right now to accomplish. Red oak experiment went ok, and I have just 4 pieces of oak embellishment trim molding to install that I was lacking the proper sized finish nails to attach. So thay will be first thing in the morning.

He was sent off with a favorite blank. A satin lining and pillow courtesy of the other half, and a collection of his favorites to accompany him. his step brother- the better half's typically punk-behaving, when behaving at all, black cat got to say his goodbyes.

So sorry for your loss. Your send off is beautiful.

I feel your pain. I lost one of my beloved pets several months ago. Still think bout him almost daily. I agree, the send off is an awesome tribute. 👍
