anything that brings a solid colour to the car is great IMO. Cost of bodywork and paint ( = longevity ) but against the cost of wrap/plastic dip and labour and the added ability to change things up $500 at a time comes down to a personal preference.
To me paint wins every time, but there is a place for both

Gremlinsteve, I'm behind you 100% on this project! Been considering it for my own Elky. I'd love to see one done in a color (blue) approximating one of the factory colors. I think matte black would look too much like an everyday primer/ratrod job.

Best - Gary

Hope that's epoxy primer on it, because dip or wrap will trap the moisture that penetrates regular primer or primer-surfacers, and you could be facing major rust problems when either is removed if it's been primed very long.

I'm all for it, just make sure you apply a lot of coats so that it peels off easily.

I dipped my 85. I got the whole kit with the electric sprayer on an awesome black Friday deal from dipyourcar. It came with 4 gallons of dip, the gun, the electric sprayer, stick you put on a drill for mixing, tape rolls, and a few other things. Forgot what I paid but it was definitely less than 500. The one thing I can say for sure is to make sure you take the time to do the prep work. I covered all lights, windows, trim, etc with tape. I also spent a fair amount of time using a razor blade and cutting gaps between body panels, lights, etc back open. I also sprayed this in my driveway on a very dry, non windy day, with no tent or covering. For the time I have in it, and the money I spent I couldn't be happier. You have to get pretty close to realize its not actually paint, but rather rubber coating.

If you get the sprayer and a large quantity of dip then I would say go for it. I did it one spray can at a time and it's a pain.
