JayPat I may be interested, it would be probably March before I would be able to pick it up though. If it isn't too much trouble then please ask, but I am not in a rush. Thanks.

I know this thread is a little dated but about 8 yrs ago I ran a strong 403. I used 1972 350 heads, mildly ported with stock valves, A comp XE262 cam, Edelbrock performer RPM intake, 750 Q-jet and dual exhaust running the manifolds... Damn strong motor

Granted I had to run 93 but with that combo it pushed my 83 Cutlass to 13.30s @ 105... I had 3.73s and a Th350 (2400 stall)

I drove the b*st*rd everywhere... I actually kinda miss that setup

Beeterolds, I have a 3.73 posi lined up for when I get back into the states. I also am currently running a TH350 behind a Buick 350. What kind of RPMs were you running with the 403/350 setup with 3.73s? The reason I ask is I was thinking of going to a 200-4r, but was wondering if the bigger cubic inches kept the RPMs down at highway speed? Right now my Buick 350/T350 with 2.71 (I think) open rearend runs about 2200 at 60 and around 2500 at 70. My car will mainly see cruising speeds, but I would like to break the tires loose every now and again and run it through the gears. I haven't had much luck finding a running 403 with no problems. They all seem to have spun bearings or some other issue and that's why they are selling. Did you ever have any issues with this on yours? Thanks.

The 403 is in my humble opinion a great street motor and even stock are very tourqey. I've had one in my 80 cutlass for years and was the best bang for the buck engine swap I ever did. As mentioned before they really wake up with more compression and a little more cam. I put mine in stock with the exception of a new double roller timing chain a high volume oil pump an Edelbrock performer intake and Heddman headers followed by 2.25 inch duals. Was it a 12 second car? No. Was it a blast to drive? hell yeah. And it would light the tires on command even with the 3.08 posi that was in the car at the time, needless to say I wound up grenading that rear in short order and unfortunatly was forced to reinstall the original 2.41 open rear which made it a pain to drive cause even on dry road it was like I was trying to drive on ice, not long after I happened upon a 3.73 posi from a monte SS and boy did that really wake it up the TH350 even barks and slides sideways shifting into 3rd gear at WOT (not an experience I was expecting the first time I stabbed the throttle at freeway speeds  ). So the long and short of it is yeah they can be a great choice and even though they are getting tougher to find they can usually be had for a decent price since they are usually passed over even by Olds guys in favor of a 350 or a 455.
