im debating on putting a posi unit in or just upgrading my open with a mini spool. i want to know if anyone is running it on the street. i know a couple of guys but they only drive there cars on the weekend. i want to use my car at least 4 days out of the week

just found out my buddy is running one in his dd 78 malibu landua edition. its been in there for 4 yrs and he drives that car to work and back 4days out the week. looks like im gettin a mini spool. i found one for 60 bucks new

yeah my friend that has had it on for 4 years says he only notices it on the loops on the highway. he says it makes a humming noise or sometimes the tire will drag. but other than that he told me on the street he cant even notice it cuz of the exhaust.

I have - and it sucked. Give it a try. If you like cars that are hard to steer when it's dry, over-steer in the rain, stress the axles, wear out tires and make noises while turning you'll love it.

spools is not for street use because of all the truning you will do .now posi is a whole diff thing most people mix them up

if your ok with the wearing on the tires and the possibility of snapping axles go ahead
i got a eaton differenital and never looked back

a little reminder if you go the cheap route its gonna cost you in the long run

you can get the same results by welding the spider gears and its a lot cheaper than the mini spool :blam:

I passed on a $300. 9" already setup .... just because I didn't want to swap the spool out for a posi. In hindsight ....

Once in awhile I run a "millermatic" spool in my jeep on the street, I absolutely hate it, it's woks great on the trail, but makes the vehicle very unpredictable on the road. Which is why I keep a spare set of spider gears, I can remove the welded set, and reinstall my open set when the trail riding is done. I wouldn't do this to my car though I'll just wait til I find a good deal on a real posi unit.

yeah im gonna try it to see if i like it. if i dont like it i got 3 ford 9in housing and a 3rd member with 3.55s sittin around. im sure i can fab up some brackets and make it fit. the ford 3rds member has a posi alredy. i drove my buddys car for a week last year cuz he said it was actin up so he left it with me. his is a 78malibu with minispool and no power steering and it wasnt that bad. just parking it in a lot was a pita but as far as turning and handling it was just like my ford with a posi.
