My steering box is awfully leaky these days and I figured i'd go ahead and order the quick ratio fe3 steering box reman from rockauto but i want to know if the pitman arm and all the frame mounting locations are all the same and this swap would be plug and play?

Id like to order a box soon but i keep looking and then the quick ratio regal steering box will say 83-87 so im confused. is there any different pitman arms on gbodies, i dont wanna get into this project and then find out the pitman arm diameter is different on different steering boxes and sh*t like that.

There are 3 types of Saginaw boxes that fit our cars. The manual box and the 600 series box use a smaller diameter Pitman shaft/arm than the better 800 series box which uses a larger diameter Pitman shaft/arm. A manual box is self explanatory, but the 600 series uses a snap ring on the top cover, while the 800 series uses a 4 bolt top cover.

I havent been able to look at my steering box but as long as i retain either a snap ring cover or 4 bolt cover depending on what i have, I will have no issues with needing a new pitman arm. thanks for the info thats exactly what i needed

edit: maybe im looking at the wrong thing to ID it

They all share the same frame mounts to my knowledge, I changed my original malibu's 600 series because it leaked an ounce a day.I put a re-manufactured 600 on and it started to leak 150km's in..I put a new 800 series with the 4 bolt flange and it works fantastic.

so thats pretty weird considering what i thought i just learned

thats the box i have now and i need to replace it because its pretty damn leaky and I'd like to get a quick ratio while im at it. Will my only option at getting a quick ratio be switching to a 4 bolt style and getting a new pitman arm?

Yup. You have the stinkeroo 600 box. They leak like crazy. I tried to reseal one, but the shaft was badly pitted. I used a 2nd gen Firebird 800 box and found the correct Pitman arm on a Regal at a junkyard for $5.

Let me add that since the Pitman arm is not a "wear' item, no moving parts to wear out, it is not a "repair' part either and thus not in the parts books. You need an NOS, EPAY, or junkyard score to get one or maybe someone on here has one for sale.
