Are pcv valve catch can/breathers worth it?

I saw some pictures of catch cans with a breather running into the intake cleaning vapors out isit worth the trouble?

it keeps all the gunk yer engine doesnt need in it, out. you decide.

they help a lil on na engines just to keep that little bit of oil out of the line. but u really need it on a turbo or sc engine cuz they shoot a lot of oil through the pcv lines.

lets just say many decades ago car makers found out the PCV system could practically double the life of an engine. i'd say it's pretty important.

I dunno about double, I know the EPA doesn't like those fumes in the air though, what abou just a chrome breather with a filter and outlet for pcv, I want to rig something up regardless, I figure if I get some kind of filter in there it will be better because it will be clean air which means better compression, better gas milage, better performance, has anyone on here done this and have pictures? Any noticeable differences?

yeah, i've got a filter on my pcv system. i really notice a difference when i'm coldstarting. I dont notice any difference in performance on the street, though. But when I'm starting i'm not sucking all that junk into the intake. Just putting a filter on (like im doing) kinda sucks though, a catch can would be better, cause the filter gets plugged pretty quick and I've got to replace it often.

I agree 100% PCV= Positive Crankcase Ventilation. The heat of the engine causes condensation inside the valve covers. The PCV system removes that from the inside of the engine and burns it through the carb. It also helps remove blow-by fumes. In theory it keeps your oil cleaner - longer and reduces sludge and corrosion inside the crankcase. There is no need for a PCV "filter". With a proper PCV system and a healthy engine, a breather will allow outside air into the engine as the PCV side sucks it through. The breather side should not be venting out unless your engine is really tired.

on one valve cover i got a pcv valve with a breather over it. the breather has a built in element that acts like a filter. and i run a hose from that breather to the intake. so it burns up whatever is sucks in the combustion process. and on the other valve cover i got just a breater vent with a filter element and i dont run a hose to that one. just leave it open so it can vent. it works for me. i picked up mine at the autoparts store. they are only like 6 bucks a piece. its just like thishttp://www.jegs.com/i/Mr.+Gasket/720/2063/10002/-1 and on the other side i got something similar it just dont have the pcv. and no hose attached. i can take a pic if u need it.
