That's right what goes around comes around. Now I'm only half as mad about the jack that caved in the other day and the hitch pin that failed to stop my tow dolley from being 'lost' after a pothole 5 years ago. I disagree with the premise of the verdict in principle however. I bet the judge had recently purchased parts at AutoZone rofl

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A federal jury in San Diego has hit AutoZone with $185 million in punitive damages after finding that the company retaliated against a pregnant manager, eventually demoting and firing her.

U-T San Diego reported Tuesday (http://bit.ly/1qWQid2 ) that the three-woman, five-man jury also awarded Rosario Juarez $872,000 in compensatory damages for lost wages and emotional stress.

The newspaper says it is believed to be one of the largest employment law verdicts for an individual in U.S. history.

AutoZone spokesman Ray Pohlman said in an email that the company plans to appeal.

The lawsuit claimed that when Juarez became pregnant in 2005, her boss continually suggested she step down because she couldn't handle the responsibilities of the job.

The auto-parts retailer operates about 4,000 stores across the U.S. and abroad.

I don't understand; you disagree with the verdict but take glee the company lost the lawsuit (?)
I also don't understand how this is come-uppance -- how does a jury finding they mistreated an employee relate to problems you've had with products you've bought there?

Re: AutoZone b*tch slapped with million dollar law suit verd

I was just being sarcastic; It's equally unfair for Auto Zone to lose a frivolous suit as it is for me to experience a jack that was only used twice fall apart under a car.

Re: AutoZone b*tch slapped with million dollar law suit verd

You can't say it is a frivolous law suit until you review all the evidence and and read the transcript and understand the legal aspects of the case.

Re: AutoZone b*tch slapped with million dollar law suit verd

I hope a lawsuit that big wont affect jobs. Not that im really ever happy with autozone employees but my point is times are tough and i would hate to see employees lose jobs and not be able to support their families.

Re: AutoZone b*tch slapped with million dollar law suit verd

I doubt the initial award will ever be paid. After lots of legal wrangling and some lawyers have pocketed fat fees a more sensible settlement will be arrived at.
I remember years ago reading about someone winning an award of $millions from McDonalds after getting scalded with hot coffee. Later on a journalist followed the story up, it turned out there was more to the case than met the eye, and eventually the plaintiff's award was in the region of $13.000. But that doesn't make good headlines so the media pretty much ignored the final part of the story.

What are you guys talking about... coffee is supposed to be hot and becoming pregnant is a choice. This lawsuit verdict is obviously stupid. I bet the appeals court strikes it down entirely or reaches a settlement more around the lines of a year's 'salary' at the store. (lol I called a years wages at a chain store a 'salary' - hilarious.)

Re: AutoZone b*tch slapped with million dollar law suit verd

I'll tiptoe around how sexist your comments are and simply say this...
It's against the law to fire someone for being pregnant. End of story.
A corporation as large as AutoZone should be aware of that.

I'm talking about the whole story. If you'd bothered to take in what I wrote the settlement was - wait for it - about a years salary.

I'm disappointed you guys have been brainwashed by the so called women's empowerment movement. I think it's pretty obvious a pregnant female should not be standing for 8 hour shifts let alone 10-12 hour shifts doing anything while carrying a fetus. There is no bad guy, there is no good guy, there's only you and me and we just disagree
