If you have to rebuild it do it yourself. I did it and it did not seem as hard as people said. be careful if you change the ratio though, it will kill the mpg if you don't have the overdrive. just a suggestion. It only takes a couple of rented tools and one day. Summit sells a whole kit with the bearings and such.It is a good price too. It has everything, shims, crush sleeve bearings for the housing and axels. just a suggestion. GOOD LUCK!

wow! i just found out that strange engineering is located in morton grove il! thats like 5 miles from where i live, SWEET! well i called them up and they said i can get the 373 gear for $174, the limited slip carrier cost $319, and the install kit is 94 bucks. this would solve my probs! now i just need to save money. YaY! 😀

YAY for craigslist! well a few days ago i found a guy about 2 hours away from me and he was selling a 10 bolt rear with rockford gears and posi. its a 4.11 gear and i went out and took a look at it in bumble f@#k IL and you could eat off the thing, it was great! i got it for $350. you guys think thats a good deal? well right now me and my buddy mike are in the process of switching it out with the old one and had to break and cut a few bolts but thats ok, i got replacements. yesterday morning before work i was juat finishing replacing the drum brake hardware and it started raining(GO AWAY IKE, TINA'S NOT HERE!) and since its parked in the driveway i cant really do anything about it till monday when its supposed to clear up weather-wise. so what do ya guru's think about my find?

I dont know much about this stuff, but $350 dont sound too bad to me if its in good shape! Sounds like you got the problem solved.

You are gonna love that 4.11 gear!!! That is until you try to go on the hiway with it. Good luck!

well its completely installed and now and i gotta get rid of the old housing and gears. the carrier is shot the pinion was rubbing against the carrier and left a pritty spiraly engraving on it. i had to hammer out the pin that keeps the axels form pushing in twards the center. so im thinking of taking out the carrier and cleaning up the housing and painting it black, put in new berrings and trying to sell it. what do you guys think? think its worth tring to sell the housing without the carrier or gears but with new berrings and bushings? + the axels too.

Its probably not worth it. Not many people want a 7.5 rear, its really weak. You will probably be more happy just scrapping it.

yeah, well imma put it out on garbage pickup day and the mexican doods in there scrap trucks will pick it up.
