well the guy who built the Bad penny camaro in popular Hot Rodding is building a new project car .it been on the web. its a 68 camaro that doesnt run for and they payed 5500 dallars ,a 350 non matching numbers witha powerglide trany.it new a lot og bodywork .they are going to put a 5.3 ls moter in it .on one of the forums they sarted a thred to what he sould do to it and said that a average joes budget is 30k and he also stated that he would build a car for 15k but it would look crud. fisrt of all why in the would would you but a first gen camaro for 5500 thatdoesnt run and will need a ton of boby work .second in an average joe who has been working on my 79 cutlass for over 15yrs. not everyboby can drop 30-50k on a car.jut a good paint job will run you a good 3-5k.that type of stateatment is why i cant satand this magazines and the cars they build .the oarts they use are mostly given to them from the parts companys.and they dont live in the real world and i cant see speending 3k on wheels and tires.but my personal feeling is that these magizines think that anyone that doesnt have big bucks in there cars . thers cars are crud junk .i take it as a slap in the face .to me and mt cars that i have worked hard on for many yrs

I could only wish to spend 30k on a car. I built my last car for under 6k within two years, that included the price of the car, body work, air ride, engine swap and wheels. Alot of the work i did myself and alot of it was work i traded. Im doing trade work now in exchange for body work on the
Monte. Ive learned that if your patient and talk to everyone youll meet someone thats either trying to get there name out there to start their own bussiness and will do the work for free or at a discount or youll meet someone that might need work done that you may be able to do in exchange for something done to the car. Most of the time itll only cost you the price of material.

After I have everything installed and my car completely paid off I will only have about $9000 in it give or take a few hundred. I don't think my car is that crude. For $30k I would have the fastest and nicest car around. I don't know anyone that has that kind of money in their cars. I guess if I knew some millionaires they would probably have $30k in their cars but I don't know any. $9000 is a lot of money to spend in my area. That $9000 is over a 2 1/2 year period.

$30k is a bit much but it is the pro-touring site. you know that some of those guys have insane custom suspensions that probably cost 10 grand. then put in a roll cage and the other safety equipment. plus, god only knows what mods they might do to the engine, easily another 10 grand. and unfortunately $5k for a gen1 is probably the equivalent of $750 for a g-body.
would i do it?    not even if i could, but in a day of million dollar camaros, $30k's not that extreme.

30 grand out in CA is about 15 grand here in the Midwest... so in all reality, that's a budget build, esp when you consider that's its a first gen Camaro. That car is an icon and you just can't compare building one to a G-body.

And I'm not a fan of big money builds either.... mainly because I can't afford them.. But I do like to see what goes in them and how they push the envelope as long as they are different from time to time.

I still have a crazy idea about putting together a G-Body magazine that would showcase a whole range of builds but I think that idea will end up with my G-Body car show.

Are you talking e-zine or print? Either way you're much more ambitious than I am. I don't have enough time to work on my cars already 😀
Is the show already a reality or is it a future goal? I go to the Car Craft Summer Nat's every year in MN and I see more and more G-Body's each time. There have even been a few G-Body feature cars from the show in the last few years. I know they let you set aside spaces for "clubs" there at the show. Maybe you could organize something along those lines. I'm not familiar with any of the other national events but isn't St. Louis host to a few of them like the street machine nat's? It would be cool to see a large contingent of G-Body's all together at one or more of the national events.
