OK, here's an easy question... I hope. 🙂

My Malibu has the basic wipers (switch on the dash). But I want the delay wipers. Can I just find a car that has the delay wiper option ans use that wiper switch and have delay wipers? Or is there more to it than that?

It is a little more complicated than that. You would have to go to a donor car like a 78-81 malibu or other A body vehicle that has the delay wipers and transfer it, or most of it, including the wiper motor assy, over to your car.

Look at this link for more info:

Scroll down and check out the "The Cheap and Ugly Route"
Some auto stores have or can get the basic adapters, as described on the link, but they are not pretty and sometimes unreliable.

Damn, I figured it wouldn't be that easy lol.

Get a steering column with those wipers and the motor. Use the same power source from the ones you have now and run your own wires to make it work. If you want to go that route, let me know and I will go more in depth on the wiring you need to do. Its pretty simple.

His is in the Dash, the early style (78-81), so I don't think he needs to bother with the steering coulmn. Thankfully, because it is NOT on the column does make the transfer easier for him as you don't have to fiddle with the steering column set-up.

Ok, I didnt know they had wiper delay switches on the dash. 😳

I concur with jatguit, I think it's as simple as changing over the wiper motor, switch and maybe running a wire or two.

Yup, my '80 GP SJ had it in the dash too.

But, I also still have my '85 Bonneville. It has the delay wipers. But it's also the steering column type. And the column is total junk. But they never worked. When I got the car the previous owner was having problems with them. And he totally butchered all the wiper wiring. But the motor should be good, right? I know it worked, but all it would do for me was slam back and forth, all the way to the off position on every pass. And they would only work if the wipers were on and I was holding the mist button. That car was really fun to drive long distances in the rain lol.
