Round Rock Texas
Good day today! My Dad tagged along and I brought my 8-year-old as well. Ran up to Belton, about 30 miles north of my house in Austin, and went both to the Belton Wrench-A-Part salvage yard and to the Winternationals Swap Meet. Pics from the Swap Meet are in the Events area if the forum.

We went to the salvage yard first. My wife broke one of the climate control knobs off her '01 Grand Prix, and as usual I had a long list of misc stuff for the Roadmaster wagon and '88 Cutlass. Belton is unique in the fact that many of it's cars come out of the Fort Hood military base in Killeen, the next town over. You have to watch for rust, as soldiers come from all over the country and bring the cars with them. I've even see Alaska plates out in the yard.

Some GOOD G-bodies in here, check out the Century Turbo Coupe! Also lots of neat old cars.

Here's the salvage yard pics:

Check out this old Ford. TONS of parts in good shape. Engine and trans still in it. Great dash, great chrome. Hope it gets well parted before it's date with the crusher.

There's a very rusty A-body Cutlass out there with an Olds 455 in it too. There's also a complete BBC 454 out there in one the 2500 series trucks. They told me I could get it for $200, but I don't have a Chevy to put it in.

Did either of you check the rear end in what was left of that monte carlo ss? If you did, was it a posi?

If it's not an 8.5, then I don't even touch it. I may go out to the yard tomorrow cause I don't have anything to do. I'll check it if I do.

Snag the spark control box and distributor off that century turbo. The ESC boxes are worth $100 if theere isnt any wire cut, and distributors are worth something too. Complete carb turbo stuff is rare, most people take out the motors and forget about the knock retard computer. The intake is aluminum and is worth it too.

CHeck the core support as well....I'm thinking it's aluminum...If it is, I'd be interested in snagging it if the price is right.... 8)

Nice pics! Very interesting array of cars. I like that Buick Century Turbo coupe.

nevermind

Well my car day was yesterday....I'm not able to get back up there for at least two weeks, but hopefully someone closer can go raid the yard. Sorry gang!

thanks for sharing the pics! wish we had even a portion of the selection around here...

that burgandy GP makes me want to take a road trip to save it, looks like it's still in pretty nice shape... those have always been my 2nd favorite G-body.I still remember driving a 83 model in driver's ed in high school (local gm dealer lent several program cars to the school every year).

Q-dub, I'd snatch up that 454 anyway... out here a good rebuildable complete 454 would fetch enough to cover the cost AND time!
