Big Block Headers

I am new to the forum and a new owner of a 78 402 Malibu. Prev. owner had removed the old Manifolds and tossed them. I need to know are there any Headers full length or shorty that will fit this setup. I just bought a set of Hooker Super Comp's from Jegs and they are not even close. + I did not like the fact that they come in pieces ( fairly crappy for 450.00 ). Thanks in advance. Don

Heddman makes a set for 78-88 G body I believe.
I have never had a problem with the Hooker Super Comp BBC headers that you mention other than the price.I recently used a set on an 80 Malibu with a 454 and they fit like a glove.The slip fits makes them easier to install.

hey I have a 87 monte carlo that is getting ready 4 a 600hp 454 swap. I was wondering witch headers you BBC guys use?

I've used the Hooker Supercomps.. they fit good if you follow the instructions... IIRC trim the motor mount or use solid motor mounts, reverse or trim one of the a-arm bolts, and I think pivot the brake combo valve. Although it doesn't say it, you may need to grind the mounting flange if you use ARP head bolts or studs (or any head bolt with a thicker head than stock).

That said, although they fit good, they are not the easiest to install. But the fit and perform well. To be honest, I haven't tried the other brands listed.

I thought they were in pieces because one tube has to run on the outside of the frame. Im not positive if that is the case with Chevy, but I know thats how it is with an Olds big block.

the best fitting bog block headers in a G-body are the Hooker Super Comp's Part # 2241. i would recommend the ceramic coated ones but they are like $600 now.

i am using the ceramic coated 2241's in my monte and it really they are the best fitting headers i've used

The hooker coating is junk.... it will rust/flake off quickly. Might want to get them uncoated and have them sent to a reputable coater like Nitroplate or Airborne...

Jet-hot even sells the Hooker headers that you are looking at brand new with their coating on them. Anything is got to be better than Hooker's coating.
