Bit The Bullet And Now I'm An "Official" Old Guy

dying off when they were close to retirement or just entering the first few months of retirement,
When I retired I had two fears. The first was that I would drop dead right away. The second was that the place where I worked would win the mega-bucks lottery and I wouldn't be there. Neither happened so I guess I am 'lucky'? Want to feel old? I am out 15 years now. A guy just starting now to work at my job is making more than I was when I retired. :blam:

I think Mike (69Hur...) has crashed the SSA site. The login page is down right now...🤣

Well, I did a spreadsheet. If I take full at 67 instead of early at 62, break even will be when I am 77. If I wait 'til 70 for the bonus, break even against the 62 is only a year and a half later at 78. If I wait until 70 and compare to 67, break even isn't until I am 81! 🤔

i agree with an earlier poster that it could not be easier to register online for social security benefits. i was skeptical of doing it on the computer, but it was really pain free. i am really not very computer literate
unless ordering parts for my 78 monte. lots of experience there

Yep. It was rather easy. I "officially" got Social Security benefits starting June 1. But they pay in arrears, so the first check I'll see is July 12.

I'm at the tail end of the people who can still get full rate at 67, instead of 70.

I've done the math, it's wiser to start collecting full rate as early as you possibly can, instead of waiting the 3 years for them percent bumps. If you wait, it'll take like 10.4 years from the day you start receiving for you to basically get to the point where you're in the green on the wait being worth it.

I'll take that full rate as early as possible and enjoy it.

Another tid bit I learned a while back, if you were on active duty military anytime before 1JAN2002, you get an extra $100/month. Just have to file the paperwork. I'm in that one too.
