Bite the bullet or modify?

Bringing this one back from the dead because Detroit Speed just ended the 9 inch VS 8.8 argument for the most part:

Is it possible to have a Ford 9-inch without an annoying amount of gear whine? Of course, but at what cost? How much time and money are you going to spend chasing down the issue when you can now simply bolt an 8.8-inch center section into your 9-inch housing thanks to the engineers at DSE...

I didn't even know gear whine was an issue, I have had my 9" in my Monte for 20+ years and the only thing I can hear once in a while is the Detroit Locker engaging. My Regal is very quiet and I haven't ever heard any whine out of the QP 9" back there.
