Blazer caliper bolts

As I was checking online for the torque specs, I noticed that Autozone had the caliper torque @ 38 ft lbs. It just seemed a bit low.
Yes, they are the 12mm bolts. Well, I guess 85 ft lbs is it.

The 38 ft/lb spec is for the 4WD Blazer. The bolts are much smaller.

Also, I just looked this up this earlier this weekend as my son and I are in the process of putting C5 brakes on Blazer spindles. When I saw the bolts that came with the caliper adapter brackets it was pretty obvious that the torque was well over 40 ft/lbs.

I did torque them to 85 ft lbs. I feel safer now. 👍 Thanks again, Jim.
 
The bolts already had thread lock on them, so I didn't use any extra Loctite.
My new ones did, but my remaining ones didn't. I should have specified.

You're right about that. The caliper was sort of trapped between the rotor and behind the rim. I took it slow driving home and tried to keep off the brake..downshifting to slow down.

You can't be too careful, as I'm finding out. Maybe it's a senior thing...😳
 
Hey Jack- close call. I'm glad you were sharp enough to catch it. FWIW when my caliper bolt holes stripped and the bolts got loose I ended up drilling and stainless steel cotter pinning the ends of the bolts. If you do it right you can fit a thin washer behind the cotter pin. Now they can't get away. Then I realized that is a great thing to do to both sides, stripped or not. Maybe next time you service the brakes keep this in mind.

Thanks for the tip, but the Blazer brake setup is a bit different in that respect. So, with all due respect, your concept won't work on these. First off, the bolts don't go all the way thru, and if they did, they'd be hitting the rotor.
Your principal would work similar to the aircraft method of safety wiring bolts.
