block nuber location?

Would like to know areas to check my motor for the block numbers to determine size and what not. Was told it was from an 86 caprice and is a 350 ho. Would really like to know for sure. It is currently installed in my regal.

Look right down between the firewall and the engine, where the transmission bolts up to the engine. Towards the drivers side you will see the casting numbers. You might have to clean it up a bit to see them, but they are there.

Here is a pic to give you a general idea of what you are looking for. An older engine will have a code like 3970010, this is a newer one.
