Im hoping someone can help me, I have intermittent blower motor operation. I put in a new blower switch and that didnt work
I have power to the switch on the first second and fourth wire, no power to the third wire, I also took apart the relay and it seems to be working.
I have no power going to the red wire going to the relay but do have power going to the blue wire.
The blower motor would come on when it wanted but never would work on high.meaning i would be driving down the road and it would come on , then when i turned off the car and restarted it would not be on.
the relay, switch and resistor are the only parts I know of that could be bad and i have eliminated everything but the resistor.
The car only has 64,000 miles on it and there is no rot, so i just cant see a broken or rotted wire,
the stereo was stolen and ripped out but the wires going to the switch are still intact.is there something im missing under the dash? It is really cold here in s.e Michigan right now so any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a harness connector under the hood, usually around the passenger side valve cover area, that has a heavy gauge red wire going through it. This wire should provide power to the blower motor. This connector can sometimes corrode or even melt at the red wire, causing the blower motor to stop working on high speed. If this is causing your problem you can just cut the red wire at either end of the connector and splice it together, bypassing the connector.

I will look for that red wire. would this also make the motor work intermittently And come on whenever it wanted to??

Get a resistor. They are pretty cheap. If that does not work, change the blower. One way to check if its the blower: next time it does not work, tap on the case near the motor and see if it comes on. Windings in motor could be bad just from time/moisture/etc.

I think so, but I'm not sure. Also, if you suspect the motor, why not just run a 12v wire right to the motor to see if it works. If it does, at least you will have a blower until you sort out the problem.

also check that stupid little ground wire/connector on the blower....

I found the red wire and it is corroded I now have power to the red wire at the relay, but still no blower, I will get a new relay and resistor before i change the motor. thank you for all the help guys. I will also post back as soon as i find the problem.

UPDATE: It was the blower motor. seems someone had sprayed lube into the motor when it started to tie up. so when I would hit a bump it would jar it just enough to make it work. tc1959 thank you for the diagram it did help.
I still don't have a high speed but am suspecting it may be the high speed relay? Any thoughts on the matter?
I think im gonna be relying on you guys (n Gals) to help me get these electrical gremlins out of this car.

Take out your resistor and see if there are any burnt wires or dark/melted spots. I have been in parts a while (not that I know everything) and sold a lot more resistors than high speed relays. Probably the resistor.
