He must have been skinny. Doesn't look like there was much room left between the back of the driver's seat, and the steering wheel.

I worked crash scenes like that with the volunteer rescue squad many times. There are scenes you'd think "How the heck someone could survive that?" and there are scenes where you'd think "Ouch, didn't look too bad at first, but still the victims are dead".

When you are in a wreck you actually are in 3 events. The initial collision, then your body being thrown forward and the last which does the most damage is your internal organs being thrust forward which explains a lot of fatalities where the victim does not have a mark on them.
