Morning,y'all.
I just did a tune up on my 1983 Bonneville wagon. It fired once, then died after 30 sec.Tried again, but all I did was flood the carb and drain the battery.Charged the battery, same thing.WTH could the matter be (aside from the boat anchor under the hood)? Thanks.

if it's stock you may have a vaccum line loose or worn some were, you only have about 10 miles of vacuum line to look at.

How about some basics? Does it have spark? Did the timing chain jump (put a timing light on it while cranking)?

Tried plugging off all vacuum ports- same result.Just going thru everything external. It could very well be the timing chain,as cold starts were always a PITA.Just don't want to put too much into it til I can find a V8 to replace it.Thanks,y'all.

if you just did a tune up did you take the distributor cap off to make sure the new rotor wasn't defective and fell apart and that you have all the connections on the coil in place and a good contact?

Did it all...new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Also cleaned all contact points.Only thing I found was a damaged wire on the EST mini harness (distributor to CCC harness);repaired it .It's a backup car,but I don't want it taking root in the driveway.

Did you check for spark? Have you made sure the firing order is correct? About it not wanting to start when cold, have you made sure the choke is working right?

double check the coil wire and the power/gnd at the coil.

It ran OK before the tune-up? Put everything back and if it starts, replace things one at a time until you find the defective part(s).
