I've been reading a lot about doing these and everyone says its easy and shouldn't take long. Well this project is giving me nightmares! Two of the rear bolts broke off so I had to cut the box totally apart to get the bolt and nut that spun free out. Idk how to put this back together now cuz I don't have access to a welder at home. Also on position 1 there were two additional washers, spacers? Do I put them back in? If I knew it was going to be this big of a deal I would have forgot this s***!!

Pics of what you did to the remove the broken bolts would help. I was was just able use a big washer and a regular nut, I drilled holes in the trunk and pulled the broken bolts, with trapezoid nut out of the top. The spacers were likely there to help line things up, so yes they should go back in.

i jsut did mine. same thing happened with my rears.

what I actually did for the washer was i took apart the rear body bushing. there is a large thick metal peice for part of the bushing. take off the rubber and you have your thick washer that you need for it.

It's pretty common for the bolts to be shot as well as the frame/body where the bushings sit. I knew I had to weld some metal inside the wheel wells but I was shocked at how much rot there was at the bushings. Sometimes you can weld a huge washer in place other times it's a chore to rebuild the area. I also replace those caged nuts and weld them to the cages for good then use lots of anti-seize. Notice how many times I mentioned weld? Kind of hard without even a cheapola welder.

I'll try to get pics but im embarrassed cuz I hacked the sh*t out of it. It's an el camino so I can't cuz through the bed. Once I get all of them in I can drive to my dads and patch it up with the welder.

Now before you all judge me! I have never done these before and have very limited space and tools. I do know how to weld pretty good and will be able to fix this. I dont normally hack stuff up this bad! I PROMISE! 😢

That's not so bad. And it'll weld right up. On my TA I had to cut up half the floor just to get at the Bastards.

I had to rebuild 9 body mount locations on the body and was able to reuse all the original anchors to put in new cages I fabbed. It wasn't easy work but for a car it's age I can't really complain.

thats not bad at all.

I went in threw the top on both of mine. well for the ones behind the rear wheel.

This is what one of my bolts looked like. look at the wear and distortion.

as much of a pain as it was im glad i did it.
