Body mount bushings question

The only squeeks I get are on speed bumps where the suspension loads and unloads fast. Otherwise no, no squeeks.

Bonnewagon,

You mentioned "Patching" you rusted mounts. I've go a 96 Park Ave - same problem. Did you make your own patches and did you weld bolt them them in?

How big a hassle was it?

Let me repost here what I said in the PM so the guys know. Yeah, it was a big hassle but I was intent on getting all the rust out before driving it. I cut out all I found and replaced with patches cut from a Firebird hood. On the frame spots I doubled up on the thickness. Also the factory uses a lot of spot welds then seam sealer-that's a problem when the sealer cracks and water gets in. I did complete welds especially in the wheelwell areas, then POR-15 as sealer on top of that, then undercoat. The body bushings were only bad where the rusty spots were, probably from working back and forth. As I said though,be sure to check those engine cradle bushings on the Park Avenue- they are failure-prone.

Mark,
I also like the poly bushings. My front end is also done with Energy Suspension bushings. They do tend to squeek over speed bumps, etc. more so when it's cold outside.
I used rubber in the rear control arms. When I boxed the lower control arms, I used the Camaro 1LE type bushings. They are a higher durometer rubber. All in all, the car looks like crap but it rides nice and firm and handles well.

Hey, Jack, get rid of that NYC mentality. You know, crappy looking hot-rod that's mechanically perfect. I don't have to anymore now I'm retired. I used to park in a crummy neighborhood and was out of sight of my car all day so I went out of my way to have the fugliest car you can imagine. I used the Speedway boxed rear arms as they came with the poly bushings, just no swaybar holes which I added. Now I need to do the rest of the body bushings, weatherstrip, and bodywork. This car I don't park on the street,I have a fugly Sunfire for that.

Mark,
Back in the day when we were still living in Brooklyn. I used to park my wagon by the train station everyday. At the time it also didn't look that great with it's share of primer spots, etc. But no one messed with the car. I also had a collar/ column lock that seems to be a effective deterrent. It looked relatively stock, only for the old style Chevy rally wheels and hubcaps.
The car was parked in a decent neighborhood, but that doesn't mean anything these days. If someone wants to steal something bad enough, they'll get it.
A friend of mine used to park his Opel GT at the Sheepshead Bay train station. The car looked like sh*t, but he had a newly rebuilt engine in it and ran fine. Some thug actually stole the car from the parking lot at the train station.

I'm sure someone wanted it for parts.

I have a frame I'm getting ready for my car. I got some 14 gauge steel and made a patch larger then then the bushing footprint for each mount location and welded them in place I also rewelded all the factory welds, the frame is boxed and I also did some other upgrades
