Bolt Ons Don't

I had a choice between a 9" and a S60. The S60 was my solution.

Also, who wants Ford parts in the their car?

(Steps in front of the Monte to block the view of the Volvo (Ford) EPS pump) Don't judge me!

HA! I went with the S60 myself for similar reasons. I was between the Dana 60 and a Ford 9". It was the strength I was after not necessarily needing to access the gears, with the third member design on the 9", to dial in for a trip to the track. I don't ever plan on going to the track. At the time the Strange S60 was a bit cheaper than the 9".

Dana 60 has added strength in the carrier, not just gear size, as they are bigger as well. A D60 posi has more space for clutches and tru-trac/detroit lockers are physically bigger. Every little bit adds up to more betterer. I regret going with a 9", but they are slightly cheaper.

The D60 is also equally if not more efficient than the ford because it is more like an ideal bevel gear and less like a worm gear.

Only thing that sucks on a D60 is slightly less aftermarket support, sightly more parts cost, and you need a case spreader to set the preload on the taper roller carrier bearings.

Bolt on just means 'we intend for it to be installed in that product'
Strange doesn't use a case spreader but threaded adjustment done with a spanner wrench to set preload.

Where did you buy it from? If they promised bolt in. That is not Dana or Strange's fault. It is whoever cut the tube length and welded on the control arm brackets. Good choice on rear btw. They are not as popular but they are way stronger than a 9" Ford. Mopar musclecars run them in heavy cars into the 9's with stock internals. Any 9" at that level has zero parts from Ford inside.

NorthernRegal mentioned size. This is a huge factor but drag racers do not mention room for diff size because they run spools which require no space. In a 9", there is no space. A 9" Trac Loc is a puny little item because of the pocket bearing. A Dana60 or S60 has a huge differential. I know you bought a helical gear but the option is Power Lock is there and that sh*t is strong. Also the smartest differential ever made. There are ramps on the pin for the 2 spider gears. When the ramps see torque, they crush the clutches which locks them and acts like a spool. Every other clutch type diff relies on spring pressure to push on the clutches so the spring you chose is how much it pushes on clutches whether you are on jack stacks, rain, drag racing or street.

I will probably go with a GM 12 bolt. Not because it's better than a S60, only because it's GM. The 9" is an option for spool, but if you want a differential 9" is out due to it's tiny trac lock. As for S60, congrats on the strongest diff known to man.

I finally got my S60 (Dana) "Ready to Bolt In" rear end. It is equipped with the ends to install my Camaro Rear disk backing plates. Well, the Camaro backing plate hole is too small and doesn't let the axle go into the housing at all. I've been grinding for the last couple of days making the hole bigger. Got one side ground enough for the axle bearing to go thru it and allow the axle retaining plate to bolt up to the housing. Once I did that, it fits perfectly.

I had to space out lower shock mount with a "T" shaped bracket purchased online on the 10 bolt cause the caliper sticks in too much. The S60 trailing arm bracket is shaped different from the 10 bolt , so I'll have to make my own bracket once the S60 is bolted in place. The bracket has multiple holes to adjust the lower control arm angle.

Otherwise, it's a bolt in with some modifications on small stuff. It is a great looking piece of pig iron, very well made!

Pics to follow tomorrow.
I got it directly from Strange. Have bolted in the whole thing for test fit, every bracket, arm bolt and even the sway bar is attached and it actually was easier to put back in. Maybe cause I've done this a few times. My issue with the spacing of the shock at the bottom of the trailing arm bracket became a non-problem. No need to use a bracket to space it out from the caliper. The Camaro Caliper and lower shock mount do not hit. There is about 1/2in clearance. Have completed the enlarging of the Camaro backing plates so now the only thing left is to measure and cut the drive shaft. Once I've got that done it will all come out for paint. Everyone runs Fored 9in, I've never seen a S60 in any car around my area shows. or 1/8 mile track.
