Edit April 18th: So I bought the car for 500$ and got a turbo 350 trans and a chev 305 with it, it actually runs really nice. Think I got a good deal?

I can get this car for 500$ no engine or trans, good parts car, just curious if you guys think this is a good deal?

T tops, bucket seats(drivers power), console shift. Power windows, locks, a/t/c. I have an extra set of rust free beautiful doors, a good windshield, and a console to go with it. Nice, solid frame. Dual exhaust, posi rear end, rally wheels

Re: $500 Parts Car, Steal or Rip off?

Seems a little high to me, but the T Tops make it interesting. It needs pretty much everything, so I would try to get it for no more than $300. However, I would check the roof to see if it is solid or not. T Top cars tend to like to rot out pretty bad in the roof and floors, so make sure you are not getting a rust bucket. Poke the floors with a screwdriver from the bottom to see if they are soft. Also, pay particular attention to the frame behind the rear wheel wells. There is not a lot of metal by the body mount, and it tends to get packed with salt and sand in the rust belt, so this is an area I would spend some time inspecting given the condition of the quarters. Remember that the economy is very bad right now, and stuff like this is not selling. It is a buyers market, so use that to your advantage.

Re: $500 Parts Car, Steal or Rip off?

It's a parts car, not a project. I wouldn't be as picky.

I'd say it's worth $500... the clean extra doors are worth $300+ alone.

Then, add in the rest of the bounty that could be harvested:
Chrome SSII's
Posi rear
Buckets, console, column, etc...
Gauge cluster
Fender fiber-optics
F41 sway bars
T-tops, and associated pieces

And probably more... Not to mention how great it is to have a parts car around that you can snag fasteners and those other odds and ends from. sh*t, now I kinda want to buy it!

Re: $500 Parts Car, Steal or Rip off?

Depending on how solid the car is, I would say build it, looks to be an 86 Salon (judging by the blacked out h-lamp bezels), if memory serves me right there weren't a whole lot of them made especially T-top ones. If it's solid $500 would be a steal on that car.

Re: $500 Parts Car, Steal or Rip off?

I'd say its a deal. It could possibly be saved if you have the motivation and its not too rusted out. If its too far gone you could get more than 500 out of it no prob. I would kill for a t-top G.

Re: $500 Parts Car, Steal or Rip off?

definately a 7.5" unless you know for a fact someone swapped in a 442 rear

Re: $500 Parts Car, Steal or Rip off?

Judging by the dash trim, it's an '85.

Unless it was swapped by a previous owner, the car definately has a 7.5 rear.
