Yes Alexis Frulling is from Alberta.
If that were her, I'd believe that. But...no. That gif is of the seat belt chick. I'd recognize those airbags almost anywhere.

I don’t have a problem with Canadian or Mexican-built cars, as GM (and Ford, and FCA) have been manufacturing in both countries for decades (well before NAFTA or the current administration.)

What I do have a problem with is billions of dollars of investment in foreign, low-cost manufacturing, while at the same time gutting U.S. operations, which seems to be what’s going on at the present moment.

In regard to unions, I make a distinction between the individual members, and the organization as a whole. I believe the majority of UAW members are honest, hard-working men and women that are just trying to make a living and providing for their families.

But I have a lot less patience and admiration for the organization, which seems to be a self-serving political lobbying organization that for the most part strong-arms the companies they negotiate with into contracts and agreements that are in the short-term interests of their members, but disastrous over the long-term, as ‘08-‘09 showed.

In terms of quality and reliability, my ‘04 Avalanche with more than 170,000 miles is rock-solid, and has only required basic maintenance and minor repairs. Hecho en Mexico.

Maybe Barra is trying to project an “Alpha Woman” image with these latest actions, but I think the way they’ve been communicated and implemented is incredibly tone-deaf considering the current political climate on both the left and right.

When Trump was just in office he had a meeting with "the big three". After the meeting Mary Barra (she was on hillary's short list for VP) was asked about if GM would bring vehicles back to the U.S. She said the meeting would change nothing, decisions are madetwo to four years ahead of actions. BTW, mary barra interned at the Lordstown GM Plant, she was there for a few years so she knows the area. It is strong Democratic area but it went Trump for the first time. She waited till after the elections before announcing this decision. I believe the congressman (tim ryan) probably would have lost to the Republican. Jmo but I saw a similar situation back in the 1970s when the incumbent Democrat Charles Carney was defeated the Republican Lyle Williams, first and only time the area had a Republican Congressman. The Steel millsshut down in September, Republican elected in November,1977.

I'm glad your 04 Avalanche is good. My in law's 04 when I borrowed it, I was told the headlight might fall out. I wasn't impressed with the power, it started a bad opinion of LS power and the the A/C stopped working, blew the fuse with my cooler plugged in. Why they wouldn't have separate fuse is beyond me. Plus the ugly plastic all over it is not for me. The newer ones look better but still. My MIL sold it with the farm, she figured a Malibu was better to drive. Sorry but we are not the third world up here, we pay higher taxes and are wages are HIGHER because of it. Babcock and Wilcox moved the plant from here to Mexico. If they didn't completely close it out, they wanted to move back, so many quality issues. My Sister is a higher up in Lifetouch and they closed their New York office and moved to Winnipeg and Mexico. They had so many issues like personal items with the wrong spelling, good idea to the leave Mexico plant in charge of that. Really grade 5 and not knowing English a problem, no way. You can thank the American business model, profit for shareholders is the only thing that matters, just sad.

Now I want to be Canadian. But might cost me with the wife.
Definitely, the only reason she is famous is because she got caught saving two horses in public on the way to the Calgary Stampede but l digress.

Show me a country without capitalism, and I'll show you a sh!thole country. Capitalism itself doesn't pick winners and losers. Instead, it allows the opportunity for losers to become winners as long as you don't quit or expect others to prop you up. Dollars don't have souls or care whether you eat or not today. $$ don't react to emotions. Invest wisely and the $$ will work for you and you should be able to cruise through your retirement and maybe even leave a tidy sum to the relatives when you check out. Or spend it up and don't leave them sh*t. Having choices is great.

Companies are beholden to shareholders. Shareholders involvement level determine a company's value/worth. Easier to borrow money when your stock is flying high. Profits drop, so does your stock price, thus company value. Sustained losses put you out of business fast. Sometimes you have to do unpopular things to save the company. Unless you're running it, you're always on a potential chopping block. What feeds you, can also turn on you and starve you. Hardly any business decision is knee-jerk.

Dog eat dog. Stay hungry. I'm not rich, but I invested early and often and long haul dividends are the best thing since sliced bread. I won't fall short in my golden age if the current environment holds, and if Social Security is still around when we get there, we'll be making more in retirement than we did working for a paycheck without even touching our 401k and IRA's principle. Which means more car parts for me. 🙂

Because.....Capitalism.

I feel bad for the affected workers. I really do. There's always broken eggs when this happens. But if GM survives in the long run over this, then it will turn out to be the right move. If it doesn't, there's a lot of blue chip (or used to be) companies that are no longer with us....risk vs. reward.
