Im looking for a paint code for the Brandywine metallic maroon GM uses. I see the House Of Kolor brandywine but I would really like to stay away from candy and go with more of a metallic. Anyone have a paint code or know more about this color? Seems like there is a few variations of it but I can't find comparison photos. Or if anyone knows of a similiar color with more red than purple. Any help is appreciated....

When I painted my 86 El Camino I had the local DuPont (Now Axalta) auto paint supply start with GM Dark Cherry Metallic Code 77/9800. They did a custom mix to bring the color away from the purple side to more a saturated red. Was told the color match was very close to the 1995 Caprice Black Cherry Red.
Below is the only photo I have of the color in the sunlight.
Hope this helps! P1011790-1.jpg El Camino-1.JPG

Its funny you bring that up. I was actually looking at the black cherry that they used on the 90s Impala SS's but I didn't like how purple it looked in certain light. I guess I'll see what the local paint store can do to get a close color. I really just want a dark maroon metallic. I think with the vinyl maroon interior and factory orange/red striping it would look awesome.

Agree 100%!
If I decide to keep my 88 Monte SS I am planning to use the Black Cherry as the bottom stripe color while using 1993 Ford Electric Current Red for the top stripes and lettering, all this on a Jaguar Black body.

Now how did you go about spraying that? Im not a paint guy so I have no idea about this stuff. It's not like candy where you have a different base coat is it?

I already tried this; you have to paint the car yourself or else the shop rates get outrageous. Couldn't repaint my 89 Riviera candy white either. Most metallic paints are banned / restricted. Check state to state. You might be able to get what you want cheaper by just crossing a state line. They are even installing scrubbers on the fan system and forcing us to use crappy conservative paint guns where I work due to new laws about chemicals / paint / aerosol etc. If you want that car in metallic paint I would step on it. It doesn't look like the constitution and private property lines are going to be enough to hold the democrats back anymore. It is still possible to get what you want right now, but soon original metallic paint code cars will be a thing of the past, especially if the dems win 2016. I still have some metallic brown w metal flake in my basement which was given to me the last time local body shop gave away free metallic auto paints which became banned. Nobody wanted it and it was illegal for them to even throw it away. They were literally standing outside giving it away on the sidewalk and a cop was posted to make sure they did not try to throw any of the paint away, lol.

The El Camino had a 2K Nason (Axalta offshoot) red oxide primer followed by a black sealer. The paint was DuPont Croma base which used 2 full coats followed be 3 coats of clear. Did all work myself but was over 10 years ago.
The Monte SS is still in the planning stage, My 79 Monte Carlo has not seen road service in a few years so that will come first.

My dad will be painting it not a shop. Not sure what politics have to do with any of this.
