Leaving the car show on Saturday night as I pulled out of the parking lot and on to the street we heard a loud thump followed by some ratting going down the road when going over bumps. I drove a couple blocks and decided to take the kiddies for ice cream so I could get a look under the car. Quickly discovered the rear sway bar on my Monte SS had snapped clean right under the PS shock mount.

So I ghetto rigged it with some zip ties to stop the rattling until I got home ( I probably looked pretty funny eating an ice-cream cone with greasy black hands LOL ). Got up Sunday morning and pulled what's left from under the car. It's a clean break in the casting so I figure that all the years of tension under the car finally killed it. So now I ponder it's replacement.

Does anyone know if anything else will swap in place of the stock unit ( if I can't find another one for a gbody ) and at a reasonable price ?? The car improvment fund was tapped for 2011 in the spring with the purchase of new tires so I am comfortable with running no bar until a replacement for cheap is found 🙂

I'm sure you can find a stock g-body replacement for next to nothing. Aftermarket ones usually start around $149+. They're out there, just have to dig a little. It would help if we knew your location too.

You could always ask these people if they want to ship.

There's also ebay

Can also try:

Shoot Kevin (O.D. Showtime) a PM.
If he doesn't have one, he can get one as often as it seems he's at the yard.
Plus he's up in Canada too, so the shipping won't be as much of a pain...

Lester B. Pearson International

YYZ is the Toronto airport

Yeah YYZ = Toronto ( I work in logistics so we all use airport codes 🙂 )

I found an ad locally for a guy parting a MonteSS so I may scoop one from him when he replies to my voicemail.

I am also trying to talk my freind down from the $ 1100.00 he's asking for his rear sway bar ( it comes with an 8.5 posi rear )

So does anything else fit or do I need one specific for the gbody ?

bump. id still like to know wat other cars we can get rear swaybars from... :?:

I don't know of any other vehicles that have a rear sway bar that would fit, the G-Body is unique on its rear sway bar dimensions.

I have seen a few factory sway bars break, obviously 20+ years of stress and abuse it can happen very easily.

Our bar is heat formed and heat treated using 4140 chromoly material to prevent this type of failure, so please keep us in mind if anyone is looking for a new one. Ours also clears the 9" housing, many others do not.

Thanks!

Will yours clear an 8.8 housing? I was planning on running a UMI rear sway bar w/ an 8.8 and boxed stock LCAs (or Ironman ones eventually).
