im so damn frustrated! Ive spent the last month or so trying to figure out why my car wouldnt start. Yesterday I changed my intake gasket leaving the timing and some carb adjustinb the only thimg between driving and not driving. So after a few key turns the entire chrome key surround kinda snaps and now moves freely but the ignition is stuck in the ACC position. So my dilema is do I change the ignition or the entire column? diagrams? Exploded views? Thanks.

From a search on G-body forum-http://www.elcaminocentral.com/showthread.php?t=27192. You gotta dig down to the switch and swap it out.

I know that's why I think I'll cut my losses and buy another column. But for the swap would the two bolts under the dash, the two on the fire wall and the harness to the ignition switch be the only things I need to loosen/disconnect?

And the shaft bolt on the engine side. Plus the wipers, turn signals, dimmer, and maybe neutral/reverse harnesses. Not hard to do. But just be sure your new column is the same series as your wipers, or you will be in for some serious work. They are- up to '83 negative switched, and '84 on positive switched. If the wiper switch is on the dash, nevermind.

Simply replacing the lock cylinder will not only be cheaper, but it is a lot less work than pulling out the whole column...
x2........

It's easy with the right tools. Sears has these so cheap there's no excuse not to have them.

Yeah Ive been looking into replacing the lock cylinder and its not much more then when I replaced the horn cam. But if I feel like it Ill get out there one day after work but I still may call a lock Smith. Not interested in tearing back into the column a second time. I got a qoute today for about $150.
