Just called the local chevy dealer and the ignition lock cylinder w/key is $43.00.

Auto parts store has these for less than $15; It's really not that difficult of a job, you could have probably taken care of it in the time you spent researching it and talking about doing it.

There's your problem lol...
www.rockauto.com has AC Delco lock cylinders for $20, and off-brands for as little as $8.

Read through this thread. I give a fairly detailed rundown on how to rebuild a lock cylinder, starting with the doors ending with the ignition. It also shows how to remove the ignition lock cylinder without buying any special tools by using what you have laying around.

This is for a cherokee on the eagle forum I often go to, but it is pretty much the same process.

I hear you on that; I've been working on a project car for about 4 years now and it's still not close to being done. Hang in there, if all you have to worry about is an ignition lock cylinder, you're golden

Errr... I have a '77 Trans Am that's been languishing for an embarrassing amount of time, and a '68 Firebird convertible that I'll probably end up giving to my Grandson if I don't croak first. How's that for long term projects? And I'm friggin' RETIRED already!

Bonnewagon that's called procrastination lol. YOLO! . I was able to get up with a old acquaintance his price was $85-$100. Advanced only carries a brand called bwd or something and they gave me a disclaimer def not buying those. Pulled steering wheel yesterday gonna finishing friday.

 Um, I hope that's installed, if not that's a rip.......You can get a new ignition lock cylinder from your local GM dealer or AC/Delco jobber for less than $45, which includes a new key to go with it.

Part # 07830380 MSRP: $42.82 if you're interested.

The guys a lock smith so that is the installed price. I'm going to end up doing it myself though i just need to find a decent replacement cylinder in-town.
