My El Camino is column shift. I have a pair of high back buckets in my shed and a console in my attic. I seen a console top plate that had cup holders instead of a shifter slot somewhere. May have been an old Dixie Monte catalog. I am wondering if column shift with buckets and console was ever available on a Malibu, Monte, or El Camino???

I have a 1980 Malibu that's a factory 4 speed manual trans car. It has bucket seats with a console with the change tray in it instead of the shifter plate that an auto trans car would have. The shifter for the 4 speed is mounted ahead of the change tray of the console.

There was a thread with a picture of i think it was regal that had bucket seats and console with column shifter. i will try and dig it up

Here is a picture of the manual trans console plate

My 79 Grand Am has buckets with a column shift. Since the original owner worked in the parts dept. of the dealer, I have to assume he intentionally ordered it this way. However, the floor shift was an additional cost option, as was the console. I'm referring to automatic transmissions here, not manuals. I like mine this way, and noticed the Monte Carlo AT console is very similar to the 4spd console that came on the 79 GA I owned several years ago. I would like to find a decent MC console and put a tray or cup holder where the shifter went one of these days, much like what Onehit did.. The tray was what GM put there. You can't tell very well from these pics, from a well known 79 4spd GA.

I parted out a 79 El Camino SS - 350 and a 4-speed. It had the package tray. Later, I cut out the bottom of the tray to fit a T-5 shifter and boot in there for my coupe. Fit perfectly, like GM planned it for me.
