500 cfm would be about max. If you can source one a carb from a 4.1 should fit the edelbrock without a problem.

The 4.1 carbs aren't electronically controlled? I thought they were, but my memory's rusty...

Look for 80 Buick full size cars that was the first year. Not common but they are out there. Some caddys also had the 4.1
I've never seen a Buick 3.8 in a 3rd Gen Monte only the Chevy version, was it a swap in deal or stock? 80 and 81 had a turbo 3.8 as an option.

the monte im building has a factory 90* buick v6 its what came in it so i want to keep that part og. i know its not alot of power but its just a cruiser

ok. First thing's first, the 3.8 NA Buick V6 is a wonderful little A-B engine. Great for cruising and can be built decently well if you're not afraid to spend a little extra dough. For that carb, yeah. 500cfm with stock heads is pushing it but it will work. If can find a Buick 4.1 V6, its the exact same engine, just with a bigger bore if memory serves. They were found in these cars from GM:

Buick
'80 STD-Electra, OPT-LeSabre
'81 STD-Electra, Riviera, OPT-LeSabre, Riviera T Type
'82 STD-Electra, Riviera, OPT-LeSabre, Regal Note: Included in Grand National Package
'83 STD-Electra, Riviera, OPT-LeSabre, Regal
'84 STD-Electra, Riviera, OPT-LeSabre, Regal

Cadillac
'81 OPT-All except Limo
'82 OPT-Seville, Eldorado, DeVille, Fleetwood
(NOTE: badges will say 4.1 for V6, 4100 for Cad V8)

Oldsmobile
'81 STD-98,Toronado
'82 STD-98,Toronado
'83 STD-98,Toronado
'84 STD-Toronado

Pontiac
'82 OPT-Bonneville, Grand Prix
You can get a 4 barrel carb and intake off of these that will drop right in, with NO modification whatsoever.
For this engine, all the normal stuff will work. Head porting/new heads (I believe the GN Turbo heads are the same but flow better), switching from dished to shallow dish/flattop pistons (depending on application), regular ignition upgrades (plugs, wires, coil for the HEI dist.), and exhaust. If you get a decent cam and exhaust, you can get it to idle like a V8. 😀
Or, you can go turbo with a drawthrough system. Won't be able to run much higher than 6 or 7 PSI safely with a stock engine, but it'd be pretty unique. '79 Monte with a drawtrhough Buick V6.
These Buick engines hate hate HATE being run low on oil or with low oil pressure. Don't even chance it, ask me how I know. 🙄
Lastly, I don't know the setup for the instrument panel on late 70s montes, get yourself a good set of gauges too. Oil pressure, temp, and volts for starters.

Hope this helps.

Don't use any brand but the stock rochester / quadrajet w the v6 or it runs rich and at first it seems good but over time it's not good. You don't even need 500 cfm w the v6 that's the highest you can go w/o problems unless it's modded / bored out and all that. Isn't the stock v6 just 380 cfm or so? Find a regal / riviera / olds and take 1 off. If it doesn't match up you just need an adaptor plate which you could get off jegs / summit easily...

Gotta agree here. The Quadrajet is a variable CFM design and will limit itself too what your engine requires.

what about runnin a webber, the only reason im asking for other ideas is cause im having a hell of a time finding a stock carb
