I own a 82 Regal which originally had the 3.8 V6 and I am in the process of swapping a 12,000 mile AC Delco crate SBC 350 (Mexico) motor in there attached to a THM350. The motor/trans is ready to go in as soon as we direct the fuel line to the passenger side and install the springs.

This is the motor
14093638...350...87-95...2 or 4...Roller or flat tappet cam, one-piece rear seal

I know I need a HEI non-computer distributor but I don't know which one. (MSD has to wait)

I also just read this at ehow.com
"If you're using a roller-lifter camshaft, then you're going to have to swap out the distributor's drive gear for a softer bronze unit, or risk damaging the cam gear."

I don't know if that applies to me or not.

So if you were to send me to autozone for the distributor, what all would I ask for?
Thanks!

Just order one of Summit's $90 HEI SBC distributors. That's what I did when I put the 350 SBC in my 85 Cutlass. It came with the Buick 231 V6 too.

You could go to your local parts store and get one for a 78 Chevy truck with a 350. Don't forget to get a new cap and rotor and coil too.

check out ebay they have some new ones that have super coils in them for around 60-90 bucks
