I was a bit sceptical about the mini buffer that attaches to a drill but man it works great

the spoiler and the front nose look like glass

I had a bunch of orange peel so I wanted to try the palm sander approach. I bought a 3/32 inch throw palm sander, a purple hook it backing pad and a soft interface pad. I started with 1000 g and then stepped up to 1500g. I tried it both wet and dry and the results were about the same. using it dry seemed to work a bit faster.

when I buffed it out I used meg 105(new product that works great) and a wool pad to compound all the scratches out. then I went to 3m step 1 compound and a white 3m cutting pad to get rid of the swirls that the wool pad made. I finished with 3m step 2 machine polish and a black 3m polishing pad.

here are some pics of the finish

Hey I think you did a superb job with the car! I have an 83 GP as well but mine hasn't faired as well. I have floor board rust and I'm looking to get the entire drivers side replaced. I also need a new rear end. Do you have any helpful info or a shop that you'd recommend. I'm willing to travel as I'm in northern Illinois.

x2 on the shop in Illinois I'll be looking to get my car painted soon and from the pictures yours looks great. That color is gonna look really sharp with all the chrome up front on the GP.
