From experience, what matters more than the hp is can you hook it up. You can have 1000hp but if you cant stick it to the track it is going to be a lot slower than it should me. It might look impressive but thats all.Get someone if you dont know how to do it, or spend time reading how do to it and follow the instructions.
Here are a couple of things to consider.
Make sure the instant center is correct.
Make sure the driveshaft/pinion angle is correct
Consider the tire size and diff ratio, dont want to run out of motor be for the end of the 1/4
The above is very important if you want to do well
As for the motor, you can always add a shot of nitros. It is cheap power, but remember to pull timing.
If the motor is high compression be careful with the nitros
We run a 460 bbf in a mustang, foot brake off the line leave on a 60 shot of nitros, pulls both wheels about 4 inches off the ground, 60' out it gets an additional 250 shot. Last run was 10.57 not bad for a bits and pieces motor. Not big hp but what it has it puts to the ground and doesnt spin and spin
Just my thoughts anyhow
good luck with your car
