Thanks--

It is a 1979 right hand drive Mini , by British Leyland . Silver with a black roof... I have a 1986 Nissan Cherry , too . I do not think , that it was sold in usa , if under the label Datsun. And a 1969 bug , see it in my gallery. My daily driver is a lowered 1986 Rabbit ( VW ) , silver , G 60 Passat aluminium wheels and some little mods....
Skyline is cool , too ;-) W123 Mercedes are getting away more and more here in germany , because of the tax for that cars ! A 300D will cost you about1100 $ a year tax !!!! That not good...

You definitely dare to be different. You have to be the only person in the First World whose dream car list includes a Trabant.

You had an original Mini? You lucky son of a b*tch! I am EXTREMELY jealous of you right now!!! A Mini ranks on my list of all time dream cars with a Trabant P601, A 1969 SS 396 Chevelle, A R34 Skyline GTR, A Datsun PL510 and a Mercedes W123 300TD.

What no Peugot's in there?

Well, the Trabant is really interesting because of it's unique engineering (Duroplast body over a steel shell, transverse leaf spring suspension similar to a Fiat, 2 stroke twin, etc.) and because it is one of the worst cars ever made. I tend to have a thing for great engineering (w123, Skyline), small people's cars (Mini, Fiat 500) and really terrible cars. I also love beautiful cars and fast cars like the Chevelle. I just don't like boring cars like the Camry and most Corollas made since 1990 ( I like the AE-86 and FX/16 though as well as the early RWD Corollas). I have often thought how cool it would be to have a collection of the world's worst cars, because there is so much you can learn from their flaws. I also want a Yugo GV (Yugo 45 in Europe), a Lada 2105 (or the FOS variant), a GAZ Pobeda 4x4 and a Zaporozhetz 965. I find the engineering used by the communists to be fascinating since it developed in a system so unlike what I am used to.

Naaah, if you're gonna go French, you gotta go with Citroen. Specifically with either a 2CV or a DS. Yeah, you could get an AMI 6, Traction Avant or an SM too, but if I had to pick just one French car it would be the DS. Pug's have never really been interesting enough for my taste. They are too ordinary, except for reliability where they are less than ordinary. I would give an honorable mention to the Renault R5 though. A Le Car with balls!

Renault

Yes... R5 Turbo or Turbo 1 and 2 with mid engine ;-) , Peugeot 205 Turbo 16V... Mid engine , too. Really fast cars ! My Nissan ( Datsun) Cherry was made with a 1,5 liter Turbo engine and 110 Hp , too. But it is impossible to find one... Another interesting thing is a MG Metro Turbo , based on Mini tech with a 1,3 Liter Turbo engine , with 90 Hp . Was made with a V6 Turbo mid engine , too . Only for rally racing over here in europe...
Or ,Talbot Sunbeam Lotus , nice rear wheel drive car.
Check out the search " Bergrennen " , or "Rally Köln Ahrweiler" in youtube...
There are so many cars , not that nice , that are so interesting , but no one likes them !!!
It is the same with my Olds Cutlass over here in germany , it is not the car people want to have !!! They want MOPARS or pre 70`s Chevys...
But thats the reason why i like my car... No one has one ;-)
Greets from over here... Carsten

I actually like liking cars that others don't like for the simple fact that it makes them cheap. Plus, with bad cars, the engineer in me wants to know why they were bad and how can their badness be fixed? It gives me something interesting to think about. With a car like , say, a Ferrari that is known to be good what is there to think about with it? It is very hard to improve on. With a Trabant , it is a terrible car in many ways, but it leaves me room to think about how to make it better without making it worse. This leads me to learn about technologies I never knew about and ways of building things that I had never thought of before. In other words, a bad car does not put my mind in a box full of things I can't change. I am therefore free to think clearly. Most people who know me think I am a bit strange, but those who actually listen to my ideas and have the capacity to try and understand them tend to find me one of the most interesting people they know. I pull from everywhere to find ideas that could work. I don't do much of what I think about because, unfortunately, I am poor. However, I have returned to school to finish the Mechanical Engineering degree I started long ago. I hope this will finally let me use my mind to it's full potential, and earn a real living.

other cars

Thats it... nice car you have... watched all the fotos now !
Take a car that no one likes and put a fast engine and so on in it ;-)
Was the same with my bug which had a 200+hp engine and drag gearbox in it. People smiled when they saw it.. But no one smiled when you hunt them accelerating like a motorbike . It was soooo fast , with top speed about 200 Km/h at 8500 rpm , not so fast but the way you go there was like hell .
So , keep your car if you can , i am allmost in the same situation , money is not that much for my toys , so i store them and take the Olds only out for some fun and use my Rabbit for DD.. It is boring and slow...but no other way , due to the prices for fuel in germany , a gallon is about 4 Euros , that is about 5 $...
