I'm fairly certain that the 8.8 still uses c-clips. Maybe the newer ones are different?

That might be. I just remember his axles having the pressed on bearings but I definitely know it's not a 9". Maybe the changed over somtime in the late '90's? I'm not that up on Mustang's or Ford's for that matter. At least not as much as my brother and his friends.

The 8.8 is a semi floating axle. I believe the only full floating is the ford 9". Problem is with a ford is they are so damn heavy

a semi floater has either a c clip or a c clip eliminator and the weigh of the vehicle rests on the outside axle bearing. I was wrong about a 9" since that's a semi as well, it has to be modified for a full floating axle

some GM 12 bolts are also floaters like the ford 9, and no i'm not talking about truck axles.
i have seen a number of people run c-clip axles on the track (race/street course NOT drag) with no problem, however they do a lot of preventative maintenance as track time is hard on the gear oil etc. so they may replace the clips to be safe.

They say not for street use, this is because the seals will eventually leak......There has been research on this issue and Moser engineering has an extra internal seal to eliminate the leakage................I don't have the C-clip eliminators on my car as of yet...But when I do get them, Moser gets my money......For an all out street car though I don't think they are needed...JMO 😀

It seems like rear ends are never looked at by most unless they break. There are numerous threads asking about how to figure out the gear ratio which is indicative that they have never taken the cover off to even change the oil so they have no idea of the level and condition of the oil . The rear end needs to be inspected regularly like everything in the car and the harder you drive the car the more often it needs to be inspected so if anything is worn it can be replaced before it breaks and causes damage to other parts of the assembly and/or car
