also i emailed the people with it and they say it has a rear sump on it already so would i be able to kepp that one or would i still need a new one thanks for the help
If the sump on your donor engine does not fit, try looking at other chassis with this engine family to see if one of them do. Remember, GM went through a major downsizing starting with the 1977 models of all of it's cars, including Cadillacs. The Eldorados also have a different pan setup than the De Villes, Fleetwoods, and Sixty Specials. This particular engine family was used from the mid to late 60's ( I forget the year) through 1981. Displacements vary from 368 (80-81), 425 (77-79) to 472 and 500 CI. The El Dorado pans seem to be popular in swaps, possibly they have a shorter sump due to the location of the differential and half shafts running under the engine.
Where are you located?
I would view that as a rebuildable core. Anthing that knocks especially when you can't hear it run, seriously I would offer him $50 and would go to maybe a $100 again assuming the worst ie that it would need rebuilt before installation. Especially with how that thing looks. You know she has been abused and worse not maintained. It is a benefit though that you don't have to pull it from a car to get it. You can get reasonably priced basic rebuild kits at www.northernautoparts.com
Then get cam & spring kit intake if you want one etc from one of the Cad vendors. Still a great bang for the buck for basically stock dependable pump gas power. What I mean is even to build say a sbc to match the combined HP & TQ numbers of a Cad takes aftermarket hot rod parts which costs more & generally loses some dependability & mileage. The Cad is tough to beat in the dependable power for the buck on pump gas department at least to about 425HP/525TQ.
Another option is www.schradersspeedandstyle.com if you are out west they sell a 370HP/525TQ standard build for cheap that does not require your core. I don't know if they finance though and I think you are looking for dirt cheap ready to drop in power which if you keep looking you are likley to find.
The Elcamino link I referred to is www.public.fotki.com/hemijoel/elcamino
He did extra work to his to get it the way he wanted but its still a great photoalbum. Some of the extra work he did was due to the 700-R4 transmission choice.
PS There is 3 different levels of timeing chains available for the big Cad. The cheap read junk I'll call it mesh style. I stretched one of them bad in a couple thousand miles on a 430HP/525TQ motor. I did not know better then. There is also two that look like a bicycle chain. The cheaper one is more than sufficient for anything other than say a 550+HP race motor. If you buy this motor and you plan to beat on it replace the chain if its the mesh style even if its new. My 2 cents.
