RACING Caged G-Bodies

I know you said 10.0 cert, but I'd consider going 8.50. I hate doing stuff twice.

Oh, and I think Autofab has a ridiculous wait list, like a year or more.

The problem is 8.50 cert will push me back into building my own or farming it out instead of a kit, I'm not happy with how most cages front tubes end in the doorway, I want mine through/behind the dash so the dash bar is hidden also, I'd like to keep it as street friendly as possible while doing this, 6 point makes that easier.

I don't know what your goals are for the car, but if you plan on running high mph as part of the road racing thing, I would consider a full cage. Yes NHRA requires a cage at 135 mph, and I understand you need some line in the sand for rules because a car going 134 is no safer than 135. But at least at the track you are for the most part contained between two walls. On the road, there are a lot more things to hit while the car is rolling. My car was certed for 8.50 and ran 8.80's at over 150.

Start asking around locally of who has a bender. Especially shops that don't even do automotive work. We have one at my work. Just a stainless steel fab shop. We also have the bending program. Might be worth paying to have tubes bent to your specs locally...

The compromise is: race car safety or street car risk.

I look at something like this and have to consider that I can no longer take but one person with me anywhere ever again: https://wildridesracecars.com/shop/general-motors/1978-1988-gm-g-body-12pt-roll-cage/

But, I can go 8.50s in relative safety. What do I want out of the car a timeslip or fun in general? And while it may seem like a good idea to skip the rollbar/cage - the kind of power it takes to go 8.50s in a G-body is like strapping a JATO rocket to a beer can. You probably want some additional crash structure. Oh, and there is nothing street legal about a rollbar/cage with respect to crash standards.

I bought an S&W 10 point and am in the process of installing it - NOT through the dash. The dash bar is challenging to say the least and it fit OK. But it will suffice down to 8.5 seconds. I was told that an 8 point was needed to run down to 10.0, but....

It was less than $300 with me picking it up. Shipping was another $100+

Here's something else to remember. More people die from regular car accidents while driving a car with a roll cage on the street, because they aren't wearing a helmet and their melon bounces off the roll cage.... The car is safer, yet at the same time more unsafe if street driven.
