whats up G's well i was on the net today and read something that kinda scared me a lil :? people were talking about worn cam lobes from not braking in there cams and that got me thinking (i didnt brake in sh*t 😢 ) i built the 383 timed it before throwing it in i primed the oil pump and it started right away revved it a couple of times hard  put it in drive and smached up and down the street 5 or 6times at about 60-70 went to the store in it bought more oil and went back home (2 or 3 miles at about 50 ) now 8000 miles later its running good and strong (AND NO TAPING OR CLACKING NOISES) SHOULD I WORRY ABOUT ITS FUTURE OR IS IT PAST THAT?

Why worry about it. It's too late to go back and break it in. I didn't break mine in and mine didn't break in properly. Got tapping on one side but still runs like nothing is wrong. I know next time to break it in like I did when I put a cam in my old 305. I don't know why I didn't do it on this new motor. O well.

If you have 8,000 miles on it, you are fine and have nothing to worry about.

Even breaking it in can still lead to issues... ask me how I know

A couple months ago, I pulled my engine due to a cam with four smoked lobes. I did a complete rebuild (done by a local shop that is highly trusted) and threw in a new cam, better heads, etc. I used Valvoline VR-1 race oil along with a bottle of break in oil that is made for breaking in a flat tappet cam. I fired it right up and got it to 2,000 and held it there for 30 minutes, changed the oil and thought all was good.

About two weeks later, I started hearing very faint noise, but thought nothing of it. Now, three months later, I can clearly hear the noise inside the car... another worn cam. The plan right now is to drive it like I stole it until winter when it will be parked and I will save up for a retrofit roller cam setup.

well i have some roller lifters from a chevy 350 vortec 99 for sale i did not put them in mine because i could not afford the cam those things run for $300-$400

A roller setup is worth every penny. Had a couple flat tappet cams go bad. 😢 Went full roller and never looked back! 😀
