Hello everyone, I just bought a used 350 chevy motor. The motor was in the car running and seemed to run well. It was very over carbed but idled good with no noises or smok, great oil pressure and temps were fine. The owner said it was rebuilt by previous owner but had zero specs on it. I can tell that the whole thing was apart, fresh rtv by all seals, i sanded the gray paint off the heads and block and it was the only color on there so leads me to believe the motor was apart and cleaned etc. While running it did not sound like there was any cam in there, was very smooth and quiet.

This is what I found

010 block
882 heads with reg stamped rockers and press in studs and look like stock springs
performer 2101 intake

I was debating changing the cam while its out of the car.
My setup, 80 Monte carlo, currently a 350 trans and 2.73 gears. I have 3.73 that will be going in the near future and then a 2004r when the 350 goes boom.

This is a street car that will use power brakes and AC

any suggestions?

Comp has a pretty large selection of cams. I'd get something with a noticeable idle and good response. Your gears and also headers would be best suited for what you want. I've personally got an olds 350, I went with the comp xe268(the # should be similar for any engine) it has like 486 lift, has a mildly rough idle. Which seems to be what you're after.

forgot to mention, i have hooker long tubes, 2.5" exhaust, x pipe, demon 650 vac sec,

call your favorite cam company and talk to them. they will give you a far better answer than we could.

You can't pick a cam without knowing your actual CR. Do so and you'll probably be very sorry.

With those heads having pressed in studs and the biggest spring ya can install without maching is a 1.256 OD. So that leaves out n e thing bigger than a 270 ad dur, as well as the rest of yer combo. I had a engine pretty much the same as yer set up and used the 268 high energy. Worked great, not that much noticeable on idle. A 270 mag will give u that idle sound but wont work as good as the 268. If it were me I would stabb on a 268 high energy with matching lifters and a set of springs and install those 373's. That will wake her up.

I did just speak to Lunanti and they suggested the 60100 for lots of torque up to 5k and the 61101 for a small step up. They suggested changing springs, but on all the websites it says stock springs are ok......... This is a street car, love to have lots of low end !! I just want this thing to get out of its own way with a little bark.

Just a good 'ol reliable Edelbrock Performer cam would be a good choice. There's a reason they've sold a gazillion of em. They just seem to work well in a stock 350. I've used it in a similar engine to yours with good results.

OEM springs would work fine if they are new. Which i doubt they are. For 70 bucks ya can get a set 981-16 comp springs and the retainers and locks arn't another 70. It would be worth yer while, otherwise she might be floatin at 4500.
