i have a line on a 2000 trans am posi he sayes it's a 273 gear non traction control i want to put it in my 82 elky that has 273 open diff i know i will have to get 28 spline axles he didn;t have the cover off so don;t know if it;s a torson or a auburn what do i look for to know if it;s good ? i have heard good things about the torson unit i think some were replaced with a auburn are they something i should stay away from ? my plans are to put the carrier in with my old pinion for now later i can upgrade to a 3 series gear i have read they make thick ring gears that will work in a 2 series carrier .any advice ? anyone have pics of a torsen unit and a gov lock so i can be sure if it's a torsen thanks all for your input

I have done that several times with no problems. The only ones were the torsen units in street strip applactions. Again the up grade to 28 spline axels are a must. If it came in a firebird or camaro it should only be the torsen unit.. Also the bolts holding the ring gear are lefty tighty righty loose. Learn that one the hard way.

Torsen diffs came in 01-02 only. All other before came with clutch type.

I did the swap on mine using 3.23 gears. The inner pinion bearing is different so get one that fits the housing. Which means buy one for a G-body. I used Quick Performance axles and a rear cover brace and haven't had any issues.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone break a 28 spline axle in a 7.5 so I felt confident not spending the money on Moser. It's usually either a diff or a ring an pinion that breaks. Also, my car is build for autocross, and won't be launched hard.

i have not read the torsens only came in 01 or 02 only.. are the clutch type worth getting or should i wait for a torsen i have never done any work in a rear so all your advice is appreciated

Depends on what you're doing with the car. I've broken both with the same amount of power

i put in a mild 350 last summer and am not going to the track but the one legged burns out aren;t much fun. so i guess the 3rd and early 4rd gen camaros had an eaton rebuildable posi

It would be a better idea to buy gears now and rebuild the whole rear end at once
