camaro rear in elky

i was going to get by till i got an overdrive trans the guy with the rear says it;s an 02 so it will have the torsen they seem to be hard to come by

yes it would be less work to rebuild the rear just once ..my reasoning doing it this way is i don;t have a overdrive trans yet 342 would be great with that . i plan to just changing the carrier not touching the pinion at all my rear is 273 the plan is swap carrier with my original ring gear adjust backlash and bearing preload and done. i have no experience in setting up a rear this sounds alot easer to me than rebuilding the whole thing i figure it;s a good way to get my feet wet and i;m looking for guidance from someone that knows how to rebuild rears. cause i have only read about it and i do like working on my own cars. i finally have the time now i'm retired i think the torson rear with 28 spline axles is a good way to go or i could be wrong . thanks all for all your thoughts best reguards joe

If you mix the ring an pinion, you're gonna end up completely rebuilding the rear end again anyway because the gears aren't going to to wear correctly and will fill the housing with metal shavings, ruining all your bearings and diff. It would be a much better option to just deal with the open diff for now until you're ready to do everything at once

If you already have a used torsen, my advice would be to used Quick Performance axles and bearing package with either 3.23s or 3.73s depending on what you use the car for. My donor axle had 3.23s so I used those. If all I had was 2.73s, I probably would have bought 3.73s.

G-bodies are still relatively new to me but I've been playing with F-bodies forever. I broke 3 stock ten bolts. One clutch type and two torsens. All on street tires behind a T56. I ran stock 28 spline axles, 4.10 gears, and a housing brace with all three. Never broke an axle, never broke the gears. The 7.5 should have a much easier life behind an automatic unless you use a transbrake. There are guys running 10s reliably with a stock unopened 7.5 behind an auto.

I;ll kill the gears with the original pinion and original ring gear on a new carrier did not know that .should i buy the torson rear the guy wants $ 200 .? i have a mild 350 not even 300 horse with a th 350 auto no trans brake plans are for a 2004r in the future no race track just trying to make it better on the street than it is now

That price seems to be about standard for a used torsen. Mine is holding up fine so far behind a stock LS1 and 4L60E
