good disucssion for a person in my case where I have replaced an entire suspension with coil overs and need to drive 15-20 miles to alignment shop, at least I can get it close.

Ask some questions at the shop before they put it on the rack. I had to go to 3 different alignment shops to get mine done. The first one wanted an hour per side on top of the cost of a wheel alignment if I wanted the camber set, the second place adjusted the alignment and when I looked at the sheet the camber was not highlighted. When I asked he said there was no camber settings in my car. That place was a corvette specialty shop... :wtf:

I've done my own front end repairs and alignments for years on my Caminos -no problems with abnormal wear-with the work done in my driveway on, thankfully, flat concrete. About all I remember using was a piece of string,a marking pen, tape measure, ordinary bubble carpenters' level -cut off shorter, maybe ,and some thick gauge sheet metal scrap I cut into four squares for ~ 'slippers' ~ two for under each wheel-- with the sheets sandwiched togeather with heavy grease. oh-and a helper to push the truck.
