got some 150 spoke 20s on my 78 cutlass right now, do i need to lift it to fit some 22s or can I tuck them? looks like it will be close, I've heard both answers, just looking for some more guidance

thanks for your time

Not unless you do a lot of cutting. You will have to do a retarded looking lift kit to fit them.

All that rotating mass would do really bad things to braking and handling since it would increase the rotational inertia that needs to be counteracted. I prefer to choose wheels based on weight, necessary brake clearance, and then what size will fit. Style fits in somewhere below those engineering considerations. 18's are probably the biggest thing you get to tuck well enough to be regularly street driven without rubbing.

Off topic a bit, I wish wheel manufacturers for domestics would post the weight of wheels in a given size on their websites. It is a PITA to try and find that data elsewhere so that a logical choice could be made based upon empirical data.

Also you have to change the rear end gear and speedo gear or it will be hard as hell on gas and speedo will be worthless.Tucking wheels that huge is a big pricey job.

To answer your question YES, you can tuck 22s on your cutlass as long as you run 255/30/22. And you can run 20s with no suspension modifactions if you run a 255 or 245/35/20. Do the math a 195/75/14 has an overall diameter of 25.5, a 245/35/20 has an overall diameter of 26.75, and a 255/30/22 has an overall diameter of 28.02. So considering your only going up in size 1.25 for 20s and 2.52 with 22s im sure youll have no issues. As long as you do it right!

I have seen plywood spoilers on a trunk to, doesn't make it a good idea. 22s are hugh and heavy doing it right would require brake and other suspension mods wouldn't it? I never liked the puny skinny 14x6s on the Cutlasses but I would rather see chrome 14x6 ralleys with 225/70/14 26.5 tall tires that are safe and still fit the suspension. I dunno I know its all about the look for some guys.

Well the guy basically asked a yes or no question, and yes it is all about looks for some people. If your going to build a 400-500 hp engine stock brakes arent going to stop you safely and i see alot of guys who dont upgrade thier brakes. On the other hand you could have the best brake set up made with 14s but hit those barkes to hard and your over powered brakes are going to turn them 14s into ice skates. Its all about matching componets to what is needed. I see alot of G machines with 20/22s on them.

OK then simple answer is NO, the 20s don't even fit. That said it's a really goofy look. 17/18s are probably the largest usable size.

The guy never asked how it looks, and how do they not fit?! Its an 1.75 increase in size from 14" ..........Ah whatever people are so stuck in there ways i dont know why i even bother.
